Our client is offering an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and skilled NDIS Speech Pathologist to join their team. The role offers permanent full-time employment and is located within a 45-minute radius from the Speech Pathologist's residence, ideally within the Sutherland Shire. The successful candidate will have the chance to work in a supportive environment with ongoing professional development and career progression opportunities.

The Role

The NDIS Speech Pathologist will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating Speech Pathology services to NDIS participants, helping them achieve their goals. The role includes supporting participants' inclusion and participation within the community, collaborating with key stakeholders, and ensuring that services are delivered within the available NDIS funding parameters. The Speech Pathologist will also be responsible for maintaining professional and ethical standards, fulfilling administrative duties, and supervising assistants, volunteers, and students as necessary. Ensuring compliance with duty of care and NDIS guidelines is crucial.

Participant Cases

  • Participant Interaction: Regular interaction with participants, support workers, parents, and caregivers.
  • Specialized Areas:
    • Addressing issues such as fussy eating, feeding dysphagia, and swallowing, including mealtime management plans.
    • Enhancing language skills and non-verbal communication, reducing frustration, and addressing choking risks.
    • Developing strategies for mealtime management, including equipment use and food texture modifications.
  • Work Environment: Flexibility to work in various settings, including homes, schools, nursing homes, day programs, and the broader community.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) with current SPA registration. Ideally 2+ years of experience, preferably within the community and NDIS settings.
  • Technical Competencies:
    • Understanding the typical development and function continuum of communication and eating/swallowing mechanisms.
    • Knowledge of common daily activities, routines, and habits affected by communication and eating/swallowing issues.
    • Ability to assess and address the effects of seating/positioning on eating/swallowing and communication.
    • Proficiency in various approaches to saliva control and understanding the communicative function of behavior in complex cases.
    • Knowledge of gastro-oesophageal reflux and its implications for individuals with developmental, neurological, intellectual, and physical disabilities.
    • Ability to prescribe appropriate communication equipment for individuals with various disabilities.
  • Behavioural Competencies:

    • Ability to work independently with strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Dedication to ongoing development of skills and evidence-based practice.
  • Licenses & Accreditations:
    • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
    • Working with Children’s Check.
    • Current Driver’s License.
    • Current SPA Registration.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience Management: Ability to manage your own day, calendar, participants, administration, and report writing. Must enjoy report writing as it is a significant part of the role.
  • Consultative Approach: Strong consultative skills, with an ability to problem-solve effectively.
  • Ethical Integrity: Commitment to ethical practices, honesty, and integrity in all interactions.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and soft skills, which are vital for the role.
  • Case Management: Experience in managing a maximum of 15 participants per week, typically working with three clients per day. Ability to manage your week to achieve 25 billable hours per week.
