The Role

As a Counsellor, you will:

  • Provide individual counselling to adults, couples, and families to strengthen relationships, support wellbeing, and ensure the safety of children.
  • Offer child-centred, trauma-informed counselling (including play therapy) to improve children’s attachments, developmental milestones, and resilience.
  • Facilitate groupwork programs to address client needs and deliver measurable wellbeing outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Engage in regular supervision, critical reflection, and evaluation to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies to protect children and young people from abuse or neglect.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Degree in Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work (additional counselling studies are highly regarded).
  • Experience: Proven ability to work with children, young people, adults, and families using evidence-based approaches.
  • Professional Membership: Eligibility for PACFA, AASW, or ACA membership.
  • Cultural Competency: Experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and case note-writing abilities.
  • Unlimited work rights in Australia.
  • Valid NT Driver’s Licence
  • Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance).
  • Satisfactory criminal history check (including International Criminal History Check, if applicable).
  • Compliance with NT Chief Health Officer directions for mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.
