The Role
As a Counsellor, you will:
- Provide individual counselling to adults, couples, and families to strengthen relationships, support wellbeing, and ensure the safety of children.
- Offer child-centred, trauma-informed counselling (including play therapy) to improve children’s attachments, developmental milestones, and resilience.
- Facilitate groupwork programs to address client needs and deliver measurable wellbeing outcomes.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Engage in regular supervision, critical reflection, and evaluation to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Uphold safeguarding policies to protect children and young people from abuse or neglect.
Requirements
- Qualifications: Degree in Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work (additional counselling studies are highly regarded).
- Experience: Proven ability to work with children, young people, adults, and families using evidence-based approaches.
- Professional Membership: Eligibility for PACFA, AASW, or ACA membership.
- Cultural Competency: Experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and case note-writing abilities.
- Unlimited work rights in Australia.
- Valid NT Driver’s Licence
- Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance).
- Satisfactory criminal history check (including International Criminal History Check, if applicable).
- Compliance with NT Chief Health Officer directions for mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.
