The Role
As a Clinician in this correctional setting, you will play a vital role in supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals into the community. Working within an integrated practice framework guided by the Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) and Good Lives Model (GLM), you will provide clinical services to both remanded and sentenced prisoners. You’ll be responsible for conducting screenings, psychometric testing, and risk assessments, and developing comprehensive forensic case formulations and treatment plans. Your work will involve facilitating both group and individual interventions addressing a range of needs such as violence, substance abuse, antisocial thinking, emotional regulation, and life skills development. In addition, you will contribute to case management planning, behaviour management strategies, and risk reviews related to suicide or self-harm, while ensuring accurate clinical documentation and reporting. The role also involves supporting new and provisionally registered clinicians through supervision and modelling best practice. You will collaborate closely with custodial and non-custodial staff to develop effective working relationships and contribute to broader training and prison-wide activities, including cultural and community celebrations.
Requirements – Essential Criteria
Demonstrated understanding of the Victorian Criminal Justice System
Experience in working with offenders using CBT and other evidence-based practices
Understanding of and ability to apply the GLM and RNR principles
Competence in conducting risk assessments, clinical formulations, and group/individual interventions
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Valid full Australian driver’s licence
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Satisfactory National Criminal History Check
Willingness to work within a correctional setting and engage directly with prisoners

- Full or provisional registration as one of the following:
- Psychologist (PBA)
- Social Worker (AASW)
- Occupational Therapist (OT Board of Australia)
- Counsellor (ARCAP Level 4 registration)
